Learn-to-Play is run by our highly experienced LTP staff and introduces kids to the sport of hockey with no skating experience necessary to participate.

Our certified, on-ice coaches help kids learn the basics of hockey, including skating, stick handling, passing, and shooting skills. 

Full gear is required for Learn to Play. Equipment may be purchased locally from Pure Hockey or Play It Again Sports. Affton Hockey also offers an equipment rental program. Rental equipment is free, but a deposit of $150 is required. The check will not be cashed unless the rental equipment is not returned at the end of the session. 

Summer Learn-to-Play is an 8-week program with skates are Sundays starting July 12, 2026 and ending August 30, 2026.

For players who need to rent equipment, fittings will take place Wednesday, July 8th at Affton Ice Rink:

• 5:30pm to 6:30pm (last names A-K)
• 6:30pm to 7:30pm (last names L-Z)

Summer LTP participants are divided into two groups:

• Group 1 - Players new to skating and those that need assistance skating
• Group 2 - Players who can skate without assistance

Coaches may decide to move players among the groups as they evaluate skill level. The coaches will let you know if your child is moved to a different group.
